At the highest point on the Heaphy Track is a brand new (2013) 28 bunk hut with mattresses, gas cooking facilities, solar lighting, wood-fire heating, toilet facilities and fresh water.
Mt Perry lookout is a short walk from the hut and is recommended for people looking for spectacular views over the Kahurangi National Park, Gouland Downs and Golden Bay. There is also a chance for a swim in Gorge Creek nearby… a bracing, but refreshing dip in an alpine pool will leave you feeling very alive!
