A sheltered grassy campsite located near the Karamea end of the Heaphy Track at the spectacular Scotts Beach. The white sandy beach is about 1 kilometer long and enveloped by steep cliff densely vegetated with mature nikau, podocarp and other rainforest trees. A large rock formation is a feature of the beach and the crashing waves provide a dramatic contrast to the peaceful serenity of the forest.
Even though the sea looks very inviting, please do not swim here as there are very strong undercurrents, rips and tides that make it VERY dangerous.
The section of the track near Koura (Crayfish) Point between Scotts Beach and Katipo Creek can be dangerous at high tide, please check tide times and plan your trip to ensure you are not crossing this section at two hours either side of high tide.
