Located halfway between the Heaphy Hut and the Kohaihai Shelter looking over a beautiful West Coast beach, the Katipo Shelter has freshwater and toilet facilities and campers can stay the night slumbering to the roaring lullaby of the wild Tasman Sea.

Water & Toilet: Tap water, toilets with toilet paper.

The section of the track near Koura (Crayfish) Point between Katipo Creek and Scotts Beech can be dangerous at high tide, please check tide times and plan your trip to ensure you are not crossing this section at two hours either side of high tide. Printable High Tide Tables are available for download from Department of Conservation.

Campsite Fee $14 per night
There is no charge for children 17 years and under. However, booking is still required. Bookings Are Essential – You can book a campsite online or at a DOC visitor centre. You need to book before you start walking or mountain biking the Heaphy Track.
